| LIA COOK, IN TOUCH: FACES AND MAZES Nov 10, 2009 through Dec 12, 2009 Reception date: Nov 10, 2009 Reception Time: 4:30 - 6:00 pm Events Associated with Exhibit: Artist Lecture Thursday, November 19, 7pm in the Eagle Student Services Building, Room 255 The UNT Art Gallery hosts the traveling exhibition Lia Cook, In Touch:Faces and Mazes, organized by the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery at the University of Nebraska. This exhibition features Lia Cook’s most recent series of weavings, in which she uses an electronic Jacquard hand loom to weave faces that dissolve into continuously changing maze like patterns. Drawing on familiar and childhood sources, Lia Cook uses a detail, often re-photographed, layered and re-woven in oversize scale, to intensify an emotional and/or sensual encounter. Examples of earlier Jacquard weavings included in this exhibition provide context for the current work. This project is funded in part by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
